Thirteen Days of Thankfulness!

Anytime of the year is a great time to reflect on all the things you're thankful for, but here in the United States we have a holiday set aside to celebrate all the things we are thankful for. This Thanksgiving Sprouts & Sprigs Grove decided to compile a list of some things we are thankful for, check out our list below:

One of the things that comes to mind for most people when someone mentions Fall is falling leaves. I could be wrong, but I'm fairly certain that the season gets its name from the fallen leaves. Some people may see fall leaves as a nuisance but not me! I'm extremely thankful for bag of leaves to add to our compost pile so we can amend our soil for next year's garden! We actually got these leaves from our local park. They raked them up into piles and we bagged them up and brought them home.

While oak leaves don't make great compost, acorns do have many uses! Your family can learn about oak trees, acorns and pinecones with these lessons:

It's always exciting when a hen lays her very first tiny egg, especially when that egg is blue or green! We had our three hens that hatched in June start laying in November and they lay blue and olive-green eggs!

Wool blankets are a necessity in the winter when you live where it snows, and they are just sooooo cozy. Each of my wool blankets has a sentimental backstory too. All but two of my wood blankets came from a family member.

If you haven't tried fresh flour before, add it to your bucket list because it's that good. Once you try it, you will be thankful for it too!
If you do use freshly milled flour in your home, we would love to know what you like to make with it. I just made oatmeal raisin cookies with the flour from these pictures.

Everyday I'm thankful for books.
Look at these treasures I found at two local little libraries! It makes me so happy to find books (at no cost) that I've been searching for!

Try going on a book scavenger hunt of your own:

Homemade butter is so easy to make that kids can do it on their own. Have you ever made homemade butter before?

Some people are coffee people, others are tea people, but I'm a chicken broth gal. Anytime we buy a whole chicken I boil down the giblets (heart, liver, neck, etc.) with a little salt, garlic and onion for a savory drink!
If you haven't made homemade chicken broth before, it might be fun to try the next time you purchase a whole chicken too!

Today, I'm thankful for...card games and the time we spend together while playing them! Spending quality time together is easy when a family game is involved! Memory making at its finest!

Your family can design a game of your own too:

Family recipes passed down from generation to generation often taste better, not only because they have been perfected over time but also because they are cooked with love.

What is your favorite family recipe?
